What is Form 9325?

Form 9325, Acknowledgment and General Information for Taxpayers Who File Returns Electronically, is a form from the IRS confirming that the return or extension filed by the taxpayer has been accepted. This IRS form is not required, but some taxpayers request this from the IRS, or preparers print this form for recording purposes.

The 9325 form also provides information about your returns and refund. If you need to make any changes to the return you filed electronically, you need to send Form 1040X, Amended Individual Income Tax Return, to the IRS Submission Processing Center near your area.

The IRS also notifies your Electronic Return Originator (ERO) that your return is accepted or rejected within 48 hours, with the reasons if rejected. If it has been more than three weeks since the IRS accepted your return and you haven’t received your refund, visit the IRS website and go to “Where’s My Refund?” to check your refund status. However, you may need four to six weeks for processing your return if you marked Item 3 on the form.

You can also call TeleTax at 1-800-829-4477 for automated refund information. TeleTax provides the date for mailing or depositing your refund, and you should receive your refund check within 30 days from the date given by TeleTax or within one week of that date if you opted for direct deposit.

If you have a balance due on your return, you have to pay the amount you owe by the due date prescribed. If you paid by direct debit or by credit card, no need for any voucher. However, credit card service providers will charge a convenience fee based on the amount of tax you will pay. If you are not paying electronically, you may use Form 1040-V, Payment Voucher. You may obtain this form from your ERO.

You will receive a notice from the IRS requesting for full payment of the tax due plus interest and penalties if it did not receive your payment by the prescribed due date. Complete Form 9465, Installment Agreement Request, if you cannot pay the tax in full. If you want to apply for an installment agreement online, you may visit the IRS website or call 1-800-TAX-FORM (1-800-829-3676).

If you want to inquire about your electronic funds withdrawal payment, call 1-888-353-4537. If there are changes to the bank account information on your return, you can call this number to cancel a scheduled payment. Prepare the social security number of the first person listed on the tax return, payment amount, and bank account number. Cancellation requests must be received no later than 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time and two business days before the scheduled payment date.

Tax refund-related financial products are offered by financial institutions. The IRS is not associated with any contracts for financial products. Contact your ERO or the lender if you have any questions or concerns about tax refund-related products.

You may download a PDF copy of IRS Form 9325 on the IRS website, but you may also fill it out electronically on PDFRun for your convenience.
