Section V. Motor Vehicle Purchaser’s Certificate

1. Mark the appropriate box that applies to your purchase of the motor vehicle. You may select:

• Tax Exempt
• Rental Vehicle/South Dakota Sales Tax
• Non-Profit Donated Vehicle/Corporation

2. Mark this box if your purchase of the motor vehicle is through a title only. By marking this box, you are attesting that the motor vehicle will not be used upon the streets and highways of this state or any state.

3. Enter the date of purchase.

4. Enter the price of purchase and mark the appropriate box that applies to you. You may select:

• Bill of Sale Not Available
• Computer NADA’ED

5. Enter the amount of your Less Trade-In Allowance. This amount is the one you’ll be giving the lessee by reducing the cost of the new motor vehicle as a result of trading in for his or her old motor vehicle.

6. Enter the amount of the trade difference of your motor vehicle. If the price of the motor vehicle is lower than what you owe, you will be paying this amount.

7. Add a 4% tax to the amount in line 6.

8. Enter the amount of any tax penalties or interests.

9. Enter the amount of credit for tax paid to another state. If you live in South Dakota but work in another state, you may request a credit for taxes paid to another state.

10. Enter the amount of the title fee.

11. Enter the amount of the Late Fee if you failed to complete the application within 30 days.

12. Enter the amount of the Lien Fee. Lien fees are notices that your motor vehicle may be sold to cover costs since you have been late on payments.

13. Enter the total balance due for this title application.
