What is the NH Driver’s License Renewal Form?

The State of New Hampshire Driver's License Renewal form, formally known as Application for Driver License or Non-Driver ID Card, is a document used by license holders to renew their New Hampshire Driver's License prior to the expiration date or non-driver ID card.

Your driver's license expires on your birth date every five years after the date of issuance. Approximately two months before the license is due to expire, the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) sends a renewal notice with instructions for how to renew.

How to fill out the NH Driver’s License Renewal Form?

Bring with you your current New Hampshire license and the completed NH Driver’s License Renewal Form.

You must pass a vision test and pay a renewal fee of $50. If you lost your license, you have to pay an additional $10.

If you choose to renew online, make sure that you are eligible to renew your driver's license or non-driver identification card online. You are allowed to renew online if you received a renewal notice containing a 10-digit Renewal Identification Number (RIN).

Tips

• If renewing online, make sure to have your current driver's license or non-driver identification card with you. You will be asked to enter your first and last name, license number, or identification card number, and the issue date as it appears on your current driver's license or identification card.
• You do not have to wait for a renewal notice in order to renew your license. You can renew your license in person up to six months prior to the expiration date.
• If you submit in-person, the DMV will issue a temporary paper license valid for 60 days. Your permanent license will be mailed to your New Hampshire mailing address within 60 days.
• Prepare to provide proof of identity and legal presence in the United States, but if your image is on file at the DMV, you may already use the image on file as proof of identity. If not, you must present a proof of identity such as a birth certificate issued by a city, town, state, court, or federal agency, a valid unexpired U.S. Passport or U.S. Passport Card, or Certificate of Naturalization.
• If you have changed your name due to marriage, divorce, adoption, or for any reason, you will also need to show proof of name change such as a marriage certificate, Civil Union certificate, divorce decree, authorization from the court, and the like.
• If you are a senior citizen renewing your license, wait for the instructions on your renewal packet and if you are instructed to take a vision test, then you must visit your local branch.
• If you will renew in person, you are required to take and pass the vision test. If you are renewing online, you will be asked to verify that your vision has not significantly changed.
